John co-founded Observatory Group in 2007, where he leads the firm’s meetings with policymakers and subject matter experts. Before founding Observatory Group, he served as the managing director for the G7 Group, a macro-economic consultancy.

In the 1990s, John played a key role in launching a tech startup in Connecticut and worked in film production in New York, working as a location scout, location manager, and production manager on independent films. His diverse career also includes teaching English in France, working as a decorative painter in Virginia and California, guiding tours in France, New Zealand, and Australia, and serving as a deckhand in Washington and Alaska.

John is a passionate surfer, yogi, and cyclist. He regularly rides dawn laps in Central Park and areas north of the city, aspiring to be a domestique and occasional racer.

As of May 2024, John has logged a total of 7,089 miles Citibiking around NYC.
